AutoComplete on cmd.exe

Remember, if you’re not comfortable amending the registry manually, don’t do this tip.

You can automatically fill in file and folder names at the command prompt, much like a UNIX terminal.

1. Start > Run … Regedit

2. Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor

3. Select CompletionChar and set its value of to 9.

4. Log off and Log on again (or reboot) for the changes to take effect. Now, at the Command Prompt window, type in the first few characters of the file or folders and press Tab to complete it automatically.

This tip probably isn’t that useful for XP and Vista users, but it certainly helped on a Windows 2000 server I was messing on the other day.
